Vickie Shellenberg is a business professional with over three decades of experience in the financial services industry. She currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Transcend Credit Union. She is passionate about serving people and helping them to reach their financial goals, and that passion drives her each and every day.
Prior to 2017, Transcend Credit Union was known as Kentucky Telco Federal Credit Union. The company was founded in 1934, initially serving only employees of the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company who lived in Louisville. Over time, the business expanded its membership to include people who worked, lived, worshipped, volunteered, or attended school in one of 25 eligible counties.
Eventually, the credit union decided to change its name and rebrand to reflect the changes that had taken place over the years. Vickie Shellenberg served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of Kentucky Telco Federal Credit Union for several years prior to their transition.
Vickie Shellenberg attended the University of Louisville, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in finance. She also holds an MBA from Bellarmine University and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
Since childhood, Vickie Shellenberg has had a strong interest in banking and financial institutions. She loved going to the bank and learning more about money as she grew up. After graduating from college, she began her first management training program at a bank. Although she didn’t know it at the time, this training program became the foundation for her successful and gratifying career in financial services.
Vickie Shellenberg greatly enjoys meeting and getting to know new people through her work. However, her favorite part of working in financial services is the ability to help people achieve their goals. She loves knowing that she is helping others meet their needs, even in hard times. For example, a member once called the credit union requesting money to take a trip to Cincinnati so her young son could get a chemotherapy treatment and she could spend the night in a nearby hotel. The credit union granted the request, helping her during a deeply emotional and challenging time. These types of instances are the reason why Vickie loves what she does and continues to enjoy it day after day.
Vickie Shellenberg is also proud to work for a company that is dedicated to exceptional service and providing high-quality products at affordable rates. She believes that it’s important for consumers to educate themselves on the various types of financial institutions out there because they operate in very different ways. For example, learning about the differences between credit unions and banks and the roles they play in the economic market is critical. As consumers understand the differences, they are more likely to choose a credit union because they will save money on loans and earn more interest on savings.
When Vickie Shellenberg isn’t working, she enjoys reading and traveling. Her favorite destination is Hawaii. Vickie is also dedicated to her family and enjoys spending as much time with them as possible.
